Well done, paul! Thanks to jono for hosting.
Excellent challenge and many great entries, fun to read through. Grateful to get mentions in that company.

Chris, an organ is a newspaper, so Guardian, and an angel is a donor in the sense of a financial backer

Thanks jono. Both did occur to me eventually, but both were a bit loose, I thought, particularly "donor" for ANGEL - the backer does hope to make money out of his investment, usually (though may well be disappointed!) Have you seen The producers?

Well done, paul, great surface. Thanks for the mention, jono, and for the interesting clips. The Times crossword, with its anonymous setters, apparently doesn't do themes, but I think there have been rare hidden ones.

Please would you explain non-Ximenean wordplay?

Thanks Jon. Genuinely honoured to win against such worthy competition. So my cavorting Naiads couldn't lure you?! Thanks for the other like too. Fascinating back stories. Hope you've got you fill of mythology for this week at least. Geeker - last time I was in a trip I was still recovering from a dodgy curry so was travelling - er - light..
See you all next week (I hope)..

PaulH@47,
Some say libertarian rather than non-Ximenean. But essentially it’s any relaxation of the “rules” Ximenese wrote down in his 1966 book linked here https://xotaotc.nfshost.com/

Rigid Ximeneans would insist on…
• Grammatically correct instruction on how to solve
• All words used as they would be in natural language
• No abuse of punctuation or capitalisation
• No superfluous words

One of the Times setters recently shared with me a “Guide for Times Compilers”. It’s interesting reading which I’m happy to share with any of you if you’d be interested in learning about the Times house style. It’s a Word doc so I’d have to email it.
