Cheers again Jono, I'm so glad I looked in. The title immediately put me on the right track and recalling some of your other posts such as the one for words indicating single letter removals alerted me to possible non-Ximenean wordplay. Again bravo, a most enjoyable diversion.
Late starting this although I got a bit lucky identifying the work in question after I managed to solve three clues and then Google proffered a suggestion which was confirmed by #8 and the "twisted here".
Still a fair bit of solving to do but really enjoying it - great stuff:-)
Thanks, Jono, I enjoyed the puzzle. After a blank on the first run through, my first in was #1.
I also wondered if #3 was plural. Any particular reason for picking 'yatagan'?
Looking forward to the next one ...
Thanks Mattrom. Yes, exactly as Chris says, I needed a Y and that’s the only implement of its type that fits. Also it was what I was referring to when I said the Wiki description differs to that in Chambers :-)
Jono thanks once again for this excellent puzzle, which I was hesitant in starting as I did not think I was capable.
Late last evening I finally spotted the connection between the author and the title of your puzzle, after searching for a litote in the work and not finding one. 🙄
