Hope I've got the convention right, 3997 with no comma. Well this for me was quite different from last week's. Almost a write in. Certainly under 45 minutes. COD 15a but no real gems in my view. For once I found the four letter clues straightforward. A primarily and a rhyming pair. For the usual style. But no Speverend Rooner.

I liked 1a. 15a rather parochial. Haven't got 2d and don't understand 19d (if I've got it right).
What does "wanting" contribute in6a? I had originally gone with a word defined by "ring".

Hi Chris,

19d - is a double definition

6a - agree, no idea why "wanting" is in the clue

2d - 2 letter "premier" + A + Republican all reversed/ going up - definition is "slope"

12a - the definition "daredevil" is a noun but the answer (mine at least) is an adjective.

.... also, in 9a - why "sells cheaply"?

Hi Brendan. Daredevil can be an adjective as in a daredevil move.

Daredevil can be an adjective as well as a noun.
Everyman has used ‘wanting’ as a link word like this several times before. I don’t particularly like it but I do recall a discussion on the subject previously.

Wasn't familiar with 20a and it’s not in Chambers, but I see it is in Collins.

I also don’t understand ”sells cheaply” in 9a…

…ok I think definition 6 in Chambers covers “sells cheaply” in relation to books.

Well spotted Jono, I actually looked up the answer in Chambers but completely missed that definition.
