At last, this Help Forum contains a real help or nudge to the theme. I had a full grid and the message but couldn’t for the life of me see the common feature in the across answers. All is now clear, thanks to Drxx. Your vigilance and helpfulness are outstanding, Drxx! Thanks very much!

I'd be the very last person you'd expect to give hints on a Listener numerical (and very happily so} but I'm always surprised when a question goes unanswered for longer than half an hour on a crossword help site.

I have a full grid, the "common feature" and, hence the "thematic setting" to be entered under the grid. I have the "split personality" and can guess how to resolve it but am struggling with the "instructions".

I also have a potential (corrupted) author. Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Xris, The instruction doesn't include an author. It's a 6-word phrase starting (4,5 ......)

I've been in the same position as xris since Sunday and would be tearing my hair out if I had any. Unfortunately I am nowhere near working out the message, That could be because I've a couple of redundant words wrong.

AP, the instruction has six words, one of them very common in thematic crosswords. The message is 4,5,9,8,9,9 (I put a comma or an' nd', mentally, after the 8, just for ease).

Thank you very much, malone. The word lengths definitely helped me to correct a couple of my "extra words" where ambiguity could have made the clues work well, either way.

Thank you for that Malone. It will give me something to work on. Am I right in assuming that the letters of the phrase appear in clue order rather than 22 first letters followed by 22 last letters?
