granama@45: the Andy Capp comic strip was syndicated in many US papers for decades. May still be, for all I know. I recall it as funny, though I always felt there were UK nuances that went over my head.

There's even an "Andy Capp's Fries" food product (for want of a better term ;-) ) I've seen in shops over here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Capp%27s

Andy Capp was in our local papers when I was a kid.

I enjoyed the comic strip too. Found the TV series on YouTube. That was a bit overwhelming though.
