I’m still gnawing away at 16d. Whilst the letters in question are a suffix indicating in the style of, I don’t think they would ever be used in this way. ‘-esque’ would be the usual suffix, ‘-ish’ an acceptable English alternative. But i suppose the use of the ? makes it ok-ish 😉
15: 15 & 20a are an anagram of part of “we meant sword”. The first part of 24 (5 letters) is the anagram indicator. The rest explains how the three spare letters of “we meant sword” work. Hope this makes some sense!
