And...having posted, I have resolved the problem. It's remarkable how often that happens!

I must admit to strong vexation with this puzzle: 3 clashes in a 4-letter word seems a bit ludicrous. However, I shall merely ask: where does the 'i' come from between 27 and 36? I have a 'g', or something, in 33.

Not 'gold' but the same word changes with an 'i' (feldspathoid/feldspar).

...and I think symmetry is fair compensation for the three changes.

Thanks Granama at #10, you were exactly right with advice on 34d.

1d. Rage with the French all over sour lust (6)
I have the answer, and see the wordplay, but I can't find a dictionary entry for the last word of the definition.
I thought at first it was a misprint, but that seems not to be the case.

Hi Mattrom. 1d had me foxed too. I initially wondered if it was an accidental typo.

I don't have the crossword to hand but I initially thought 'm' but that doesn't really work (wrong sort of booze).

However, try making the last word into what would usually be a drunk. I think Chambers suggests that would work.

That’s spot on Granama1. Not least because the evenly spaced corrections indicate that must be the letter required. I was thrown at first by using the shorter alternative word in the middle of the phrase

Thanks, Granama and Quisling. I was working on the shorter word also, so decided that there could not be a correction in this clue.

23a Predecessors to do towards the end (4)

26a Cold and cheerless Charlie quitting old group of ten (4)

Baffled by these. Since I have only 3 clashes there would seem to be 5 in this pair - unless I have been careless elsewhere of course!
