I have an almost full grid, the message and 6 of the clashes. I can see how the message will help resolve the clashes I have. But I’m baffled by 23a “Predecessors to do towards the end (4)”.

I have MU?E - although the 3 letters presumably contain the two missing clashes.

Ah, got the answer now, although not sure about wordplay

In 39a the first word gives a single letter. The next three words give the rest. The last four words (with a correction) are the definition.

Need help with 40a ones scoffing at previews starting out late and 36 d lad keeping date for lass. Clashes there I think.

34d, no word fits for me but I already have eight clashes, if anyone can help?

Lumen, 34d is in Chambers. Perhaps check the spelling of 35a? (The 'unknown').

I've completed with one outstanding ? The last letter of the second revealed word. I can't make the correct letter fit the clue that I think it must be.
