Well I enjoyed this one - though I suspect it was too easy for some. Then I'm licking my wounds having polled 61 votes against the winning total of 491 in the District Council Elections (someone tried to present a shotgun licence as Photo ID).

Ethik, work on the assumption this is a thematic clue. You'll need the tip of bayonet and a good working knowledge of small palm like shrubs to put it in.

Also struggling with NE corner, but not with the thematic answers. Any help with any one of 9, 11, 12, 14 or 21 might nudge me along..
