I have it all now, thanks. I had an S in the fifth position of 26A. And I couldn't find a suitable synonym for townies, but now ...

Complete apart from 22d which has me tearing my hair out. I can only come up with just the one word that will fit 'E?e?l?'. I cannot for the life of me see where the word 'TOWNIES' fits in.
