I think I'm there but can't work out a parsing for what I believe must be the solution for 22 ... agree with Brendan 2 is dodgy - and searching for 8 took most of the morning - obscure or what? Darkest Africa!

Prospero, look for the letters of ‘one’…

I don’t think 2D is problematic. The middle two letters of on wEIght are the EI, hence essentially, and they follow pull up (reversed), and that sequence contains the base of abdominal. So the components of the wordplay are all there in order. The on could be doing double duty as it’s a down clue, but it doesn’t have to, as it works without it

As usual, the ones everyone talks about are the only ones I find simple. 2D and 8D and their parsing came easily. I am sure of the answers, but I am having trouble parsing 17D and 22D. And I can only find two options for 13A neither of which seem likely (unless totally archaic). Any hints please?

OK. I have 13A now. It seems all you have to do to solve a clue is make a fool of yourself by asking for help!

17d parses as two letters ‘bill’, inside three letters ‘fetish’ (I didn’t know this word), then two letters “I see”.
