Some odd ones. I can't decide on the last letter in 8d - neither possibility seems right. 19a and 12d are weak. I can see the anagram part of 14d, but no idea on the rest.

barryc 13 is an anagram.

Chris, the cold weather part of 14d is the first four letters (missing its last letter) the rest is the anagram

Rattled through this apart from the intersecting 1a,9a,2d and 4d. After 30 fruitless minutes, looked up the answers.
Would never have got any of them if I'd spent all day though if I'd got one I might have got the lot.
Got caught out by the trick in 9a last week .

Tricky definitely- favourite 4d clever clue. I would have no problem with 8d a bit obscure but clearly indicating a plural ending.

Phil would you not need to be pretty hardy to wear (just) 14d clothing in winter?

I have no problem with 8d either - works as a dd for me.

Didn't 'get' the meaning of the second part of 4d until coming on here, and now agree that it's a great clue.

Having got all the crossers for 20a I biffed the answer and only afterwards realised it was an anagram. Was flummoxed by 1a for a long time, and only got that after getting all the crossers too. Clever wordplay.

All in all, an enjoyable solve.

Bowergirl; I was also bemused by Phil's comment re wearing 14 in winter!

I had a lot of trouble with this, took longer than the Prize.
1a (good clue, but I just had trouble), 9 (the same trick almost got me last week and I clearly didn't learn) and 8 (not a great clue IMO) caused the difficulties.
Forgot to write down FOI or LOI.
COD 1a.

Don't see anything like rhyming pair or alliteration. Two long symmetrically located across clues involved colours, which might be significant.

Lucertola, I'm cutting down on thread posting. Prefer Brendan to start the Prize thread and for others to kick off Everyman.
