Do you mean 15a as FOI, in roof? It's part of the long anagram.

Yes I should have said 15ac, 8d.

I've just got 5d. I decided to google Picaroon. Why didn't I think of that before. So 5d was a triple definition.

On the whole easier than usual, though I did use hints in this forum for a couple of the last few that I was stuck on. FOI 10a, LOI 4a. COD 15a/8d; I liked the double meaning of "Bohemian". I was surprised at some of the critical and doubtful comments people made about "Sphinx". To me it was a totally straightforward definition: the classical Greek Sphinx is best known for posing a riddle. I don't like "bore" in 7d, as I don't think the word quote means that. (In fact another word only one letter different is IMO a better fit to "bore".) On the other hand I don't agree with Roof when she said "not housework as I know it": one of the major techniques in cryptic clues is using a word in a sense which is not "as we know it", but which makes a kind of sense once you get it. I, like some others who have commented, at first got the alternative solution to 2d, but I have no idea what the alternative solution to 1d is. Any hints?

In my last post "quote" should have been "quite". I did proofread before posting it, bu still managed to miss it.

... oh dear, and now "bu" for "but". I should probably go to bed.

Micky, think of “bore” as in a tree bore fruit.

Thanks, mathprofrockstar. I didn't think of that meaning.

So after driving most of the length of Italy yesterday, and not being able to lay so much as a finger on this, it turned out to be a classic Paul. Difficult to get a foot in but much faster once you get a few crossers.

Thanks to roof for the picaroon hint as I didn't know either. And in fact many others here who helped me on my way.

FOI 1d. LOI 20d. COD 24a just because I liked the way he put it together.

Add my thanks to Roof for Picaroon hint. Haven’t posted for a while but enjoy following forum every week. In Australia so missing my Saturday paper but getting crossword online, not the same as working the old fashioned way! Paul has never been my favourite compiler but I have thoroughly enjoyed last weeks and this one . As you say Rocky difficult to get a foot in but very clever and good fun . Thanks to Paul and all of you ,stay safe and warm!!

Having finished, LOI 4a...I have a question about elisions..... do they always indicate a shared definition. Seen them often but haven't understood their significance.
