I always thought 18 was pretty well-known in the UK. Wikipedia (fwiw) actually asserts that "X's success was greater in Britain".

Just picked this up and scored a big zero on first run through. I'm using the excuse I've been driving 10 hours today and my brain is a bit frazzled. Hopefully there'll be a few stragglers around to help me out tomorrow.

He was quite well known over here - but 50 years ago (and never really a major star - not an Elvis!)

I'm reluctant to weigh in here on the fame of 18d, given how I thought the Addams Family was much more well known than I'd thought, but surely 18d's song C????? is one of the most played, not to mention covered, tunes in pop history.

I always identified 18 with the tune P----- W----, which is almost ubiquitous on this side of the pond.

Hi can anyone give me clues for 4across. I have all the crosses. Also I think I have 9 across but I can't parse it particularly the last letter. Thank you

Hi Hkwstuck,

4a - 1 letter "back in business" + 5 letter "like Crucible or Pan" (don't be misled by the capitals) - definition is same as 1a.

9a - synonym for "number" (maybe by 18d?) with the "second and third (letters) reversed" - definition is "make out"

There's a film that uses what, for me, was his most well-known song.

Hi Rocky

I didn't find it easy and still have two to get.

What a long drive, no wonder your brain is frazzled.

I still can't get 12ac and I'm not sure of my answer to 5d

I don't like the housework acronym in 7d- that's not housework as I know it. I got 1 down by googling a possible answer and baseball came up, so I knew I was on the right track from threads above.

Light has just dawned and I now have 12ac, my nemesis today. But it does mean I've got 5d wrong. So that will be my LOI. My FOI was 15ac, apart from spelling it wrong.

My CODs 10ac and 24 ac
