25a - If you add single letter "duck" to the answer and split it 2,3 you get a term meaning "that is"

However I think describing 7d as 'old' is outrageous, it wasn't that long ago at all :-)

No Pauly, it's a very common term meaning "that is to say". The "duck" goes between the second and third letter of the answer.
