Ah, different word. Mine was the 5 letter Down entry in the SE. The one you're talking about IS what I'd say is an unusual spelling of a name. Are you saying you've solved it but it doesn't fit with the crossing letters?

I thought both of those showed some of the strain of fitting so many theme words in the grid. Both fairly clued but a little 'exotic' and needed a bit of digging to confirm.

Excellent puzzle from KevGar though.

Hm. Hard to say much without giving a spoiler. Try this. The answer sounds like if you reverse the last 3 letters on the second row and say it out loud. If that's your answer then I'd suggest you may have a problem with the crossing letters.

Got it now thanks Simon. I had thought the first word was altered to water giving me EAUAN - it seemed very convincing!

Many thanks, KevGar. A real challenge with the PDM for me coming late, but with a resounding clang, in a tentative gridfill using the non-thematic answers.

One deeply nerdy (and, as far as the theme is concerned, completely irrelevant) question. Is 35m correct? My Googled source suggests that it should be 25m.

g1 - if you’re worried that the number in the relevant clue isn’t sufficiently large, it’s worth a swing past Chambers. Who knew?

40,689,061 [1] (2022).

[1] according to the CIA, no less.
