I'm interested in Granama's post #4. My Chambers app on a Windows PC only shows anagrams of real words. If I put in a jumble of letters, e.g. 'petdrophairi', it shows no result.
I do have the answer, but I'm wondering if perhaps, the app works differently on other systems.

Hi Mattrom, in the app on my iPad you can enter a jumble of letters and it will show any whole word anagrams (but not anagrams from a subset of the letters). You can also use wild card characters in the search: * (any number of unknown letters) ? (any single letter) # (consonant) @ (vowel)

Mattrom, on the android app there are two main options 'Lookup' and 'Search'. If I put the letters in 'Search' it returns all valid anagrams that use all the letters - it doesn't appear to work using wild cards though. ie if I put petdrophair? or pe?tdrophair in it returns 'No matches found'.

I have 24d from the 5 crosses (presuming the defintion is the last 4 words). But can someone please help me with the wordplay ...

If you check the entry for 'institute' in Chambers you'll see it's a Scottish legal term.
