French for 'novel' around D(ominus) for 'lord' - def someone who catches fish.
An anagram of bLOOd yEt (minus their 'skin') for a food 'spread.'
Initially B + an archaic word for a beginning (also the point of a weapon) def is an archaic variant for somthing like a table, and sounds exactly like it.

EV/Enigmatic Variations is in the Sunday Telegraph, in the big Puzzles section. Subscribers used to be able to access iit online, but I think that may have changed recently.
