Ah, I see it now...
Look at the last 4 letters of the 4 long perimeter clues.
Same construction was in the 100th puzzle.
[I previously misposted about last 5 letters.]

Alan Connor’s identity as Everyman has to have been one of the best kept secrets. Interesting to learn this is his 200th puzzle.

Indeed Jono, and assuming his run has been continuous we should also be able to identify when he began 🤔

That would be 3,773 I think and the opening line of the blog confirms…

Hi Brendan.I think my crossword skills must be improving. I got through this quite easily, only resorting to Quicksolve for my LOI 19d. Used Anagram Solver for 3d a phrase I didn't know. Not bothered as my fun lies in identifying the anagram rather than the brain cudgelling which may follow. No problem parsing 1a but I don't think that means the pupil has outstripped the teacher yet! Thanks for your coaching when I first allowed myself to be drawn into all this. 🙂

That’s it with the four letters, Geeker. Not something I expected anyone to notice last time but very pleasant to have a miniature celebration for the 200.

Back to earth with a bump after the last two Sundays. After my allotted hour had no more than half solved so courtesy of Mr Dan Word, looked up the answers and I doubt if I would have got most of them if I'd spent all day on this.
Still can't parse 1a, 9a and 10a.
Don't get the reference to Smiley in 12a
Thought 3d was a bit obscure .

Loubyloo10. For 9A - take the 3rd word as a verb. 10A - think Roman. 1A - 1st word is the definition and the last word is inserted into a 7 letter observation with 2 letters removed.
