Two thirds of the answers can be entered directly but answers that require modification cannot be entered until you've worked out how they're to be modified (sorry if this hint is rather opaque, planks - I'm trying to avoid anything that might be considered too revealing this early in the thread).
I found the double/repeated letters in some of these clues quite helpful early on.

...sorry, that should be, 'the doubles/repeats in the answers to these clues...'

Another super puzzle from Nudd.

I had no problems with the definitions at 24 and 3, both of which are in my BRB and on the CD-Rom. The fifth word at 30 is spot on for the wordplay.

Good morning, all. I enjoyed that one from Nudd but, as is often the case, I have a couple of parsing queries. Please can someone enlighten me on how the wordplay works for 26a and 36a?

26 - a word for pig inside a word for middle

36 - three letters for excessively and then the back half of a word meaning elbow

Thank you, candledave, I should have spotted those! Interesting that there is no dialect indicator for 26a.

I've enjoyed the last couple of Listeners (it always helps when you can complete them!)

Got an idea of what was going on with the modified answers, and correctly guessed the first word of the hidden message from a couple of letters. Spotted precisely what was going on, but was too quick to guess the last word of the message which caused some puzzlement before light dawned.

I’m not a fan of puzzles that may have obfuscated definitions, so this wasn’t my cup of tea I’m afraid. As mentioned earlier, reverse engineering saw it solved. Clever, though.

hmm, isn't obfuscation the point of these things? 😁 I read somewhere years ago that cryptic clues should mean what they say, but not necessarily say what they mean (I think I've got that the right way around)
