THE THEME
Requests may be made here for gentle nudges towards the theme. It is, of course, hard to define exactly what constitutes a 'gentle nudge' - aim to help without being overly revealing.

Early finishers should avoid any allusions - jocular or otherwise - to the theme.

The Listener is a unique puzzle and deserves to be treated with respect.

Very enjoyable hour and a half. On the easier side but enough to it to keep it interesting, no tortuous grid stare and some neat letter moving to finish. Lovely.

Pleasant, and as easy as cartes blanches come. But the clue beginning “Amass” doesn’t work properly, in my view.

Thank goodness you said that about the "Amass..." clue, Quisling. I'd been staring at it for about 10 minutes trying to see what I was missing in the parsing of it. So it's not me, it's the clue that's a bit off.

I can live with the definition, but for it to work you would need a meaning of “harbouring” that Chambers doesn’t support. The fourth is perhaps closest, but doesn’t do it for me. A minor quibble

The amass clue is fine isn't it? The extra wordplay letter just comes at the front?

Alas, as per usual, there is one clue I can't parse ...

Thin neckwear items binding, without base that is square (10, two words)

I have the answer and extra letter but I can't see how it's arrived at. I think the last 3 letters are "that is square" but that's about as far as I get?
