Crossers for 6 correct! For the "left" part of the clue, think of the nautical term.

After being out all day Saturday with the NW corner still pretty much untouched I have just completed the puzzle. I have to say I liked the balance between easy and hard in this. Some clues were easy to get an answer but a bit tough to figure out the parsing. To be honest I would have helped myself if I hadn't gone straight in with a different musical style (perhaps more of a genre) for 25a that fits perfectly with the crossers until you get 23d. I decided I'd parse it later because it must be right. Then after deciding 23d was impossible I realised my error.

There were also a couple of words I had not heard of but all in all a good puzzle I thought.

FOI was 1a which would be a contender for COD also. But I'm going for 13a but as one of many well constructed clues. LOI was 9a.

Like others I got going easily then got stuck. Just sat down to try to finish my last three 19, 17 and 26, They came easily enough with the help of Google but they were all new to me.

I thought maybe there was a bit of a newspaper theme which caused me to misdirected myself a couple of times with the wrong kind of papers. 😊
