I have a full grid, bar a few of the alterations, but I'm struggling with some of the synonyms. I think I have the first name and might have the second but am just not sure - do the initials of the game give something edible?

That's great, many thanks Drxx, I've been staring at the synonyms for the best part of the evening so it's a relief to know I'm finally on the right path:-)

My hesitance was because I can't see why the first 4 letters of the second name equate to the extra word in 29 - is it in Chambers?

Yes, brendan - it's in the alt spelling of that word.

...it comes after, 'on a high or narrow footing'.

Oh dear, I can't see any alternative spellings for either word in my Chambers app - There is an informal, shortened version of a longer word with a QUI in it but that's all and the extra word, at least the one I have, does not have any alt spellings?

...the second entry of that 5 letter 'p' word is, 'a spiny-finned freshwater fish'.

Okay, thanks again Drxx - I've obviously gone wrong somewhere, though I'm baffled as to where - there is no Scot, N Eng variation in either the the extra word or the synonym, at least in the ones I have so will need to go back over it.
