Entirely correct. I got it up quite early this morning and saw
a) Maskarade
b) double alphabetical, and
c) hidden theme
and thought "I'll not bother!"

Thanks, so no real connection between the people? I was assuming they were all in the same book, film, play, government or whatever, not just that they were all people. Unfortunately I haven't got a Chambers Dictionary.

You must get one. Not that it has been much use to me today.

I've made progress, even finding the praying mantis in my Chambers, though I would never have guessed it. I have, however, cracked the theme. Not that I've found all the theme answers yet.

I still haven't got L2. I started to look at the grid to see how to decide where things will go, but haven't yet made much progress. I shall start fresh tomorrow.

There are still many I'm stuck on so I'm off to bed now.

Chris I'm sorry you aren't in it. I hate themes too, but I do like alphabetical crosswords. I used to love those set by Aracauria.

Just finished. Started grid filling quite early and with some of the 11, 12 and 13s in place, with some guesswork, it came together quite nicely and helped with the last few solves. Not my favourite Maskarade of recent times (I think those were the Ring Cycle and the one with all the fish) but still good fun.
And I shall remember it if only because I’m one of the theme (no prizes for guessing which one :-)
