It is indeed a numerical this week. Before I turn to that, I too have only found one of the two answers that should hint me to the work, though I think I do know what it is. Can anyone hint at what the other hint might be? Also I don’t understand the first word of the clue to 18a.

Yell is an island in the Shetlands. One of the thematic answers does double duty as one of the two hints.

Mooncow. They are the last two "down" answers.
