Is there a misprint in 40D?

Hi Gitto, do you mean in the definition or wordplay? This was one of many, for me anyway, where the answer came relatively quickly but finding the misprint proved most problematic - I'm still not sure I have it!

There isn't a misprint in 40d, the definition is quite obscure but is in Chambers.

Thanks Quisling - I didn't think that there was. I'm all done now in terms of the grid fill with the 5 thematic answers appropriately highlighted. I will circle the others but haven't got enough crayons to highlight them all, so I won't bother with that. I haven't a scooby what the two answers are that hint towards the work, but I'll revisit that bit later. My only minor gripe is that some of the corrections made to the misprints are, IMHO, slightly unfair, particularly those in 21d and 18d and 38d had several possibilities - but still a very enjoyable puzzle.

Q? 'only the item's first letter must be entered, with its cell highlighted appropriately'. Has everyone entered this in the first cell of the space for the answer and not entered anything for the crossers? I'm finding it a tad ambiguous - and geometrically unsatisfying looking at the completed grid.

I assume I've missed something in the instructions.

You’ve misunderstood the instructions, Granama1. The entry is in the first cell where the thematic part of the answer begins. That need not be the first cell. The rest of the answer bar the thematic part is entered normally. That’s the only way it can work
