After I posted 14, I did Monday's Guardian cryptic, and found "Sly creature in pop song?" I swear I saw the Guardian after I posted here.

As always, I had mrs. buddy paste the clues only into a spreadsheet (an old professor's habit of always grading tests "blind"). As always, you have made my job quite difficult. The clues that get a smiley face sticker include:

geeker 13 (would have ranked much higher if not for the indirect anagram, and probably needed a "?" to signal the &lit-ishness); paul 5; jimmy 22; mprs 16; paul 7 (probably needs "charges" but that spoils the surface); mprs 26 and jimmy 21 for the weasel references; and jono 19 for the stab at a composite anagram (though who would the Stones be opening for at this point - God?).

My four finalists are pedagogue 24, mattrom 9, jono 18 and jono 28. After much hemming, hawing, and breaking for a snack, the podium is:

Joint bronze: mattrom 9, jono 28
Silver: jono 18
Gold: pedagogue 24 with:

His Holiness taking a drug - crack!

I hear it helps with knee pain. Congrats to pedagogue (for your first win?) and thanks to all for some sparkling clues.
