JUlesvern, it's become a convention (and by no means a hard and fast rule) that it's only hints or additional clues that are provided for some puzzles. These are mainly the Guardian ones, and also the Radio Times. On most other puzzles, answers are sought - and gratefully received. IIf people want hints, and hints only, it's easy enough to say so.

I'd say that threads with answers are far more the norm - and I think the people who run the site seem happy with this.

Thanks for the response Malone, that's good to know. i only started doing the PE crossword a year or so ago, and the first time I came on here looking for help with a clue I was shocked to find actual answers!

Julesvern, I've only just noticed your reply. Thanks for that. I suppose some of the conventions are known only to regulars, and could appear confusing to newcomers!

It's perfectly fine to ask for hints only, and most helpers are happy (happier?) with that. I suppose it just means you have to be very careful when you look at any replies, in case you come across any answers (to other clues).
