[Thanks Buddy, the Guardian examples are across clues and the Indy is a down clue, so all these are fine. My question related to whether A on B = AB could work in an across clue, or in a puzzle with no grid (like the ones I’ve been setting). I’m not convinced it works despite “on” meaning beside/against and still haven’t found an example]

I'm in awe of the inventiveness shown in all your clueing. I thought that this would be difficult, and it will be, but for me to pick a winner! I'm compiling a shortlist so that I can see all my favourites together; already there are 12 that would be worthy winners.
