I enjoyed this - much easier than last week! Good to see the rhyming pair back too.

I'm surprised so many had a problem with 12a. I agree with jazzgirl that an 'and' before 'very' would have made it clearer, but otherwise I thought it was a very clever clue!

I also really liked 7d, but agree it wasn't perfect, in that the second word of the clue should have had a better definition than 'perhaps drunk'.

I've got the answer to 11a, but I don't understand the 18, or even what the definition is. If it's not too early in the day, could someone please enlighten me?!

hi Julesvern
18 refers to the answer to clue 18

On reflection I think 12a is fine, as long as reverse does double duty to indicate the wordplay and be part of the definition, as in an &lit

Doh!! Thanks jazzgirl. That makes it one of my favourite clues now!

Sorry Quisling, but I don't understand why reverse needs to do double duty to indicate the wordplay? Surely 'the reverse' is the definition, and the anagrind is 'arranged'?

Thanks to Everyman, I found this straightforward but fun.
FOI 3, LOI 7.
COD 7, but 6 and 15 were strong and very close.

Quisling, I had reached the same conclusion.

Yes, Julesvern, but I don’t think you can have an anagram indicator in the middle of the anagram fodder. If you wish to clue “racing”, you can’t say “gin upset car at speed”. You have to say “upset gin car at speed” or “gin car upset at speed”. That’s my view, anyway. So unless reverse does double duty the v needs to be at the end of the word. Others may disagree!

Julesvern, sorry I didn’t see your post. The problem then is that the anagrind is in between different parts of the fodder and we need to get the single letter to the front.

Usual pattern for me -all bar four done in a reasonable time -then another 20 minutes of getting nowhere. Before I give up and look up the answers, can I have hints for 1a, 1d, 6d and 15a please .
