It's the 'some work' part of 13a that is just not dropping for me. The 'as nuns' part I get. I'm wondering if I have the right answer.

It's a unit of work (no longer much used). You may have the wrong ending.

Thanks Chris. I hadn't heard of that. So I do have the right answer. Hard to tell on the Android app because the green tick appears to tell you nothing.

Still not totally sure of 22 (it seems too straightforward)
and I have two answers for 9, neither of which I can parse.
And hints welcome :-)

9 it's fairly clear which way round to do the substitution

22a is hidden
22d first 2 letters are an organisation for women

I also couldn’t parse 13d and had the alternative ending initially, also the wrong word in 10a per ChrisE’s earlier post.

Overall highly enjoyable, and I think the closest I’ve ever seen to being a pangram without being a pangram. Unless I’ve got an answer wrong and the one missing letter is in fact there.

Oops, yes 22d - got the organisation but surely you can get the answer without that - just thought it too easy
But then I am obviously being dim with 9 as I still don't see it.

It took me ages to parse 9a.
Take a word for ,sexy, and replace "romeo" with "kiss"

I really enjoyed this rather easy puzzle, but there were some clever and humorous clues.
I had the wrong answer for 13d which held me up solving the lovely 23a for a while. I had omitted the "work" completely. so thanks to Chris for the explanation.

The captchas don't like my ipad .
I have checked too many chimneys, bikes, walkways, boats, just to post one answer !
