thanks malone - sometimes i astonish myself at what i manage to overlook!

Hi Quisling, I haven't yet started the endgame so I don't know which clues are limited to very specific answers. My only reason for posting the query was to make sure I hadn't made a mistake - which I always assume I have done whenever I come across something like this.

AndyP, thanks. 14 D has the Lapp giving the first four letters, then a plural measure, unit of measurement,has a letter removed (the second or third, it makes no difference!)

Hi malone, re 14d after the Lapp might it not be the 5 letter version of the forerunners of cds pluralised minus the 3 letter version of a letter ?

Hi again andyp, yes the phonetic representation of the more familiar 2 letter abbreviation.

ginge - thanks got it, I had earlier disregarded this as i hadnt properly thought what could be considered as "letter" - another d'oh moment!
