bigf - i agree with you - for someone like me whose knowledge of poetry is limited, i would not describe them as iconic (compared to eg i wandered lonely as a cloud).

I found one poet (if you know chalicea you will know where to look first) amd googled them to stumble across of one of the lines. This gave me a plant. I then googled for poetry involving said plant to find the other poet and the other lines.

Thank you for the responses. I will have another look. I'm afraid my A level Chemistry Physics and Maths do not help with literary themes!

Bigf, there are comments about an 'appropriate colour' in earlier posts. That colour is the name of the plant and its plural form needs highlighting. The first two 'iconic' quotes are from the opening lines of a poem by an American Nobel laureate who settled in England.
