I am a new subscriber to the telegraph puzzles (since last sunday), and expected the new EV to be available today online.

When are they generally published online?

I get the paper version on Sundays and I think that's when the online version appears as well.

I am struggling a bit to get the sentence and the 2 instructions, possibly because I have the wrong extra word in some cases. So far I have 5 words at the start of the sentence (2, 2, 4, 4, 3) and 5 at the start of the instructions (6, 1, 4, 2, 6) but if those are right I have reached a dead end. Also is R the unchecked letter in 20 across? Confirmation that I am on the right lines would be much appreciated.

I think I may now have the sentence/quote so I will see how it goes from there.

You've got everything right - for 20a the entry in Chambers is 'quich' (not quiche).

Thank you for that confirmation drxx. Just one wrong extra word had thrown me.

Excellent puzzle, Aver! A particular pleasure was finding all the “Easter Eggs” in the clues and the grid once the theme was revealed. Many thanks for the fun.

Have done the endgame but without being at all sure of a couple of clues:

2d) Soothe abdomen before food in sheffield?

23a) Antagonistic Scotsman wanting alcohol neat

Very enjoyable puzzle overall
