I'm still struggling with my last two: 9a and 10a. A gentle nudge as to the changed descenders should put me straight.

9a adopts the letter from 1d. .. 2d adopte the one from 9a.
6a/10a need a new letter. 7d takes one from 10a. 8d takes one from 10a.

oops ^ should be 6d/10a

Thanks Mattrom. I now have the horrible realisation that my (weak, admittedly) hunches for 9a and 10a were unfounded! I think I need a more fundamental clue as to what those confounded temps are (before truncation) in the former and what constitutes those meals in the latter....

You'll kick yourself tegumen. You're half way there with 'temps'. Just think of that word as the adjectival part of the phrase, with the plural indicated by the second word. The meals are evening meals...

Goon Show sound effect of penny dropping on 10a but do those temps have a frost or a tan of this nature? I'm still in the dark...

Seems like I am the only one having a problem with 8d. I have an answer that my other half is convinced is right but I just can't see how it parses. Best guess is that the fodder is the first 3 words, but if so, I don't see how that equates to the last word. We are changing last letter when inserting in grid and the inserted word seems to fit the final word in the clue better but that ain't how it's suppose to work! any help please?
