Uintaite - natural tarlike asphalt found in the Uinta valley, Utah (per chambers).

The interesting thing here though is that "tarlike" is not in chambers!

Very good, andy. How did you find those strange words? I can think of easier ways to seek inspiration!

i used to play scrabble competitively so similar to this forum someone would have shared these nuggets at a tournament, and they stuck with me!

My 12th edition Chambers includes a section: "words to surprise you" one of which is sesquipedalian (tending to use cumbersome or long words ) I hope I am not guilty of such floccinaucinihilipilification !
A few years back (2016) there was an amusing discussion on this forum about taghairm which was started by "rusty"( one of our forum members who now posts occasionally here) That was the first time I had heard of it .

It was named after the town of Cummington in the USA where it was first discovered

Jazzgirl, I thought you had to be joking (or being sesquipedalian) with floccinaucinihilipilification but no, it's a real word - I love it:-)

PS If memory serves, the taghairm discussion was prompted by its appearance in one of the barred puzzles that week.
