Clowning imitation, about to floor me again (10)

I know what the answer must be, but where does the last letter come from?

I wonder if the intention was a three letter word for ‘imitation’ which would give the first two letters and the last, about an anagram of ‘floor me’. Still doesn’t exactly work but I can’t think why else ‘imitation’ is there

Thanks jono. That would leave the "to" rather awkwardly, though - and the "imitation" is more than a bit loose.

toy is shown in Chambers as an adjective - made in imitation of something else as a plaything.

Many are small imitations of the real thing so I was happy with the definition as a noun.

thanks both, but how does the "to" in the clue fit in? it doesn't seem to work as a linkword.

I can't think of any link word that would fit, although 'to' is not ideal.

The only way I can reconcile all the clues is as follows:

Clowning is the word sought; imitation is a three letter word formed by the the first two letters of the answer plus the last letter of the answer. The clue to their positions is the word "about" ; the anagram is in fact "floor me" and the words "again" is the very flaky clue that floor me is an anagram. In this scenario the "to " is redundant

I found some of the other answers or what I think are answers to not be fully explained by the clues

I parsed that one as you, tentatively, suggested - I thought RIVING could mean "splitting (or whatever).
