Thank you eXternal. I am now rather sorry that I asked that question in (obviously) the very earliest stage of my first pass - when I was uncertain if “it was just me missing something”. Had I waited a little longer the solid quality of the rest of the cluing would have made it evident that it was simply a typo.

Whatever, the rest of the experience was a very satisfying and fun solve that took me back to days spent with both victims and their replacements.

Clearly I'm the only one struggling with the gridstare. I am left with two victims/replacements to find. I have another likely victim but can't find anything to replace it. Do they all go in the same direction? If so I'm looking at lengths of 4 and 4, 3 and 5 or possibly 2 and 6.

Loge, yes, the replacements all go in the same direction. The 4,4 is right.

Thanks Malone. I've looked for about 2 hours in this direction so any non-spoilerish tips for homing in on them would be most welcome!

The three four-letter ones are all in the right-hand sight of the grid. There aren't many entries that length...

Thanks. It's official - I am an idiot. I had the wrong third letter for one of these entries so no wonder I didn't see it. Found the other too.

A clever puzzle spoiled for me by the grid staring - though some of that was my fault!
