I think there is a misprint in the last word of 5a. Or have I missed something?

are the last 2 letters inverted?

Yes, there is a typo in 5a - 'quite' should read 'quiet'. Apologies for any bamboozlement caused.

Thanks, eXternal. I didn't mind the typo - it was so obviously just a misprint and didn't interfere with solving the clue. And it was such a terrific crossword, that one tiny blip pales into (virtually) total insignificance!

31d - God from region around Athens is shunning club (5)

If I've read this correctly I add a letter to "club" to get a C and then remove it from a "region around Athens" to give a "God" - but then what is the last letter? If "is" replaces the C then that would be ???I + IS and if we just "shun(ing)" C then it's a letter short?

Also, to complicate things, if it ended with an E and began with the letter above this clue then it could become one of the "victims".

Thanks Xwordfan. The problem is that the 'region around Athens' is 5 letters then if I remove the C that leaves 4 then if I add IS that = 6?
