Still nothing from the good vicar. In 2019 he mentioned the "long-suffering Mrs Ambler" !
The Ambler (aka Thea(o) ) aka Penda, does indeed live far north of the ramparts of the Roman God Hadrian(us) in Northumberland.
I hope he is OK.
I thought that the "hidden" Thea in the clue referred to the Greek Goddess whose name can also be a genus of Tea plant. . But I can see that Penda is a good answer for the Australian tree. Awaiting news before the forum starts getting busy again ......... :)

Nah I reckon you are right JG, even though all the other plants are of a different variety and the letter count still is nothing I can make head or tail of.

You definitely are on the same wavelength, not me.

Maybe never to know.

Penda doesn't read emails so there's no point in me emailing him. If he returns in a few weeks with another puzzle, then I will add a post asking him to make sure he answers all the queries as he's left a lot of frustrated followers this week.

Meanwhile Jono has sought my permission to post in Penda's absence, I have said Yes but to try and make them less convoluted than Penda's offering.

Well done to Jazzgirl and Jono for finishing this. Did you work out why the prime numbers were in that sequence or why there were multiple enumerations? I got some of the answers and the quote (shouldn't "best" have been misspelt?) but must admit I didn't persevere with this one. I agree with the last sentence of Norah's post above!

hi Loge
I think the clue numbers (which were all prime numbers) were jumbled to confuse.
Re the multiple enumerations, they were there also there to confuse.
For example my FOI was Chimp Teaser (6-6) but there was a choice of three enumerations from which to choose.
The flowers (rivers) also had a choice of length. Penda didn't want to make it too easy.
Best should have been misspelt. But being extra to the parsing did help me to get the quote.
Some of the clues were not parsed in the accepted way but they were easy to solve, especially the rivers, apart from Spey which I still don't understand how to parse.
One of the answers was spelt incorrectly .
All in all, very convoluted, but it passed some spare time mid-week.
I also agree with Norah's last post ! Looking forward to Jono's puzzle.

Thanks Jazzgirl. That's what I thought and it's helpful to have it confirmed. I'm not a fan of elements being thrown in to confuse unless there's a good reason for doing so, e.g because it relates to a theme. If Listener setters started doing that, Norah would have to pull the plug on the Listener thread before the server went into meltdown!

PS the SPEY clue is almost a duplicate of the one for OUSE so I wonder if this was an oversight?

Hi all just woke up.
73 AH yes 73 I knew him well.
Daisy Daisy give me your answer do
I'm half crazy ( you will agree)
So 73 is a real flower ( though a rather dated clue)

My apologies for the errors and omissions - Mea Culpa

And i take Norahs advice for future reference - I think I confused myself!!!
Have a nice weekend PENDA
