i see SAP in hollow (DIP) and corn (EAR), so as long as Mattrom likes it it's good enough for me. Congrats to ginge and thanks for hosting and the mentions mattrom.

Well done ginge, a real labyrinth of a clue which I think buddy has correctly fathomed below. Thanks mattrom for proving you can squeeze a lot of life out of three little letters … and for your mentions.

Well done Ginge but I am on the still baffled list.
Thanks for hosting Mattrom and the thumbs up for Canadian maple syrup. The best!

Nice, ginge. Thanks for the shortlisting, mattrom.
I take it as sap for pigeon, appearing inside DIP (hollow) and EAR (piece of corn).

Many thanks mattron for what's obviously a contentious decision. I enjoyed both clips but I can't promise next week's offering will be anywhere near as educational.
I have to admit being surprised by the "bafflement" as the mechanics of "this" combined with such a device appear often enough in "better" crosswords such as Listener, IQ & EV and I'm sure I've seen some of you posting to these threads on this forum - obviously my clue didn't mimic these well enough. Comments whether condescending or congratulatory all received in the same humour.
