Hi Jazzgirl

Many thanks. One of my favourite authors. I saw it on television. It does mean I've got the wrong answer for 22d which might help me with 23ac. I had an "i" at the end, which didn't give me any words.

I did have a break early on to take the leaves off my hellebores as the flowers come through.

But it is hard today.

This thread seems to be getting flaky. Several times today new posts have shown on the main page, but not within the thread.

Thanks for this Jazzgirl. I thought fiery creatures were involved, but didn't know this word.

Just four left now. It's a race against time. Will my husband get dinner on the table before I get them - 9ac, 21d and 24ac and 24d?

Just to say thank you to everyone. I think I have finished and eaten my dinner, despite the odd doubt about one or two: 24ac and 21d, but I was relieved to find the answer to 9ac and parse 17ac.

My FOIs were 15ac, 13d and 2d.

My favourites were 23ac, which I finally got, and 11ac. What does COD stand for?

There were a number of words I didn't know, which I had to look up, though I was pleased that two of my favourite authors appeared.

Once again thanks for all your help. I nearly gave up. I can now settle down to Hidden Assets, which I think is really good.

Geeker #73, I've noticed this problem before. When the post numbering is out of kilter (the post before this says 'post 75 of 73'), that the first post on a new page does not become visible until a subsequent one (or two) is/are added.

I love Vlad's work, and/but this is quite a tough cookie. I have two yet to do :

24a, which looks like an old board game with coloured pieces (and dice maybe, as I recall?) but I ... cancel that, just saw it. That's wicked!

And lastly 21d, a word like 'preserved', root is used in broadcasting and media to indicate 'done', can't see the America connection.

My penultimate couple were 24d - whicjh I kind of get in a 'get up and go' sort of way - and 22d, where I have the (ancient Greek) female reveller but can't parse it - something to do with transforming the start of West End?

Hi Jvector,

21d - It's just an American spelling of the word.

22d - "West" is the old American screen idol then 3 letter "end" around "a" but dropping an "e" as in a "tab" (drug speak)

Usually I start Saturday evening and finish Sunday morning. Not this time! 8 a.m. and none in and the forum hasn't been encouraging. Bye folks. I'm going to spend the rest of my crozzy time learning Welsh.

Cheers Brendan... ah, that 'West', I always forget about that one.
21d: I haveC.N.E., I as ttrying to justify a synonym of 'tinned'. I suspect I am mistaken but there are oodles of words that could fit. I will go look through them! Thanks.
