12A coming to a conclusion, Boris & CO’s party? G-T-E-I-G. Presumably GATHERING, but what’s the parsing?

A double definition, coming to a conclusion (I gather you were busy..) and also a party, not to be called a party, if you're in government, a gathering.

Capital C seems to imply it's Cook as surname, not in the kitchen. But I've gone down the whole wikipedia list and still none the wiser.

friar? sounds like fryer. A friar wouldn't be a prior, though, as friars and monks are different.
