I went online at 12 and like a lot of people rattled through it, until I got stuck on 11a, which I put in this morning

First word parsing on 20a I'm not sure about

FOI 1a, LOI 11a, COD 26a just because I like the image it evokes

PS if it is a different setter I'm glad they got the memo on 16a

PPS in 1d what's the relevance of tweets, is it a synonym?

Hi Warden,
20a think computer keyboard.
1d yes, a synonym as definition.

PS. I recollect Everyman has confirmed he/she is a single setter and historically this was the case. Could be that the editor has asked for some easier puzzles to start the year to encourage newer solvers.

PPS. There was feedback last year that the Quiptic was becoming harder than the accompanying Monday cryptic and I sense this has been addressed in the new year also.

Took me forever to work out 1D. PDM finally arrived, but I'm still wondering if there's some significance to the italics in the clue. Any ideas?

Phil good point about the italics - I found it a bit misleading to start with; perhaps a typo?

Jono and Warden I like your style! Say no more…

phil10000 I think the italics are there to help as they help to make it clear that the clarifying remarks are additional to clarifying remarks already made... It certainly nudged me towards my PDM as 1d was my LOI!

A Good One overall I thought it was quite hard but I am bleary eyed listening to the cricket. LOI 25a presumably a homophone? 1d COD

Morning all. Enjoyed that - esp 23A for its simple humour.
Can’t see where last 2 letters of 19A come from??
Enjoy your Sunday.
