Straightforward but clever crossword . FOI 6a . LOI and COD 1d for the tea tray moment when parsed . Spotted one rhyming pair . Happy solving to all.

This was one of the easiest Everymans. Have we established there are two setters--this one was so much easier (and enjoyable) than others I have solved.

Good day Everyman solvers. Unheard of for me, finished in about 30 mins, FOI 1a LOI 26a. COD is a tie between the rhyming pair. I am not sure if there are two setters. But the 2022 offers to date seem on the easier side. The anagrams in this week's were quite visible. The eight four-letter words were quite obvious as well in my view. Merry Sunday.

1d took a while for me, since I had a synonym starting with w for 1a. Everyman is singular here.

Definitely on the easier side which is no bad thing, I know a couple of people who have just started doing cryptics who will enjoy this. Everyman clued 13d previously I recall not so long ago.

Chrisxxx, Have you got the right date in the heading for the Crossword, you posted at 2.45am on 9th January and yet several Users seem to have finished it.

We usually use the puzzle number in the Everyman thread title to any avoid confusion with dates. This is Everyman 3,926

I think there are forum posters all over the world, so the midnight GMT arrival of the crosswords is early evening in the US and mid-morning in Australia. There are also some UK insomniacs… I’ve completed numerous crosswords at 12.05am in the past.

Conversely to others, I found this more difficult than last week’s, but the different style really does point to Everyman being more than one setter. I’ve always felt the name “Everyman” is a clue to that, and it’s either numerous regular Guardian setters working on one crossword together, or several of them take turns to fill this day.

I have altered the title to Everyman 3926, thanks Jono. Thanks also to Jazzgirl and Richard for the explanations, I am always interested in how these things work.

PS Captcha is driving me potty this morning.

PPS For consistency and ease of reading, and as a former Text Processing Supervisor, I have decided that four figure numbers such as 3926 will be presented without the comma, but 5 figure numbers, 28,968, will have a comma😇
