Sorry everyone about number asked. 1st time using this site, I thought I had read all the rules.
Thank you for answering, especially Jazz Girl. I had managed the other 90+ questions.

@quiztime, I think that is what was meant in the guidelines and that is what happens in the Rainbow quiz for example : lots of questions, but only a few from each person

PS. I think the guidlines were altered, to stop any poster asking for answers to a long ' shopping list' .(Last week, a different poster wanted 14 answers and Norah deleted 11 )

Just to clarify, I think Ash settled originally on 3 questions per quiz because it was felt unfair and very off putting to our Members to post ‘shopping lists’. He wanted to run a nice friendly Forum where everyone helped each other with queries, he didn't want them bombarded with long lists..

He didn’t think it right that contestants could post a full list of questions without going to the trouble to try and find the answers themselves. They should only come to the Crossword Solver site for a few on which they are stuck, after all it is the contestant who is entering the Quiz, not the Crossword Clue Solver Site.

Mallory, don‘t worry about asking 5 questions, I had noticed but Jazzgirl and Loge had already answered so I left them there. See Escher’s post, can I ask – did you read the Posting guidelines? I’m not criticising you, I’m just curious.

Escher, I have my doubts as to whether Mallory would have been aware, we’ll wait to see if Mallory read the Posting Guidelines but I don’t think many of our new users read either the Forum Rules or the Guidelines. Loge, a regular user, says he wasn’t aware of the 3 question limit which rather says it all. Perhaps it’s time all Members refreshed their memories by reading the Rules and Guidelines.

Jazzgirl, again don’t worry about your enthusiasm running away with you and answering 5, I doubt if I could have answered one.

Quiztime, Yes, lots of different people can ask 3 questions each.

I know it is unlikely but doesn't that mean if a quiz has 60 questions and 20 people ask 3 each then the whole quiz would be answered anyway.

Perhaps it might be an idea to have a prominent post from Admin about this, that's regularly bumped, like the Duplicate Threads post, seeing as there appears be an increasing number of quiz-related posts?

Unless I'm missing something, the only way to see the Posting Guidelines is to actually post a new thread. Several regulars (me included) seldom or never post new threads, and therefore won't know not to answer quiz questions to which three answers have already been provided.

Just a thought.

@quiztime. That is just what happens to the Rainbow quiz, almost every clue asked by the closing date, alrhough only strong hints are given, not direct answers

@ Norah, I only managed to solve 4 as the most difficult one was answered by Loge 😀

Quiztime, each person can ask 3 questions so, as Jazzgirl says, most of the questions on the Rainbow Quiz are asked over time but only strong hints are given. I think that is the best approach, to just give hints.

Loge, Jazz says you answered the most difficult question, well done. I'll think about adding a new thread about both Crosswords and Quizzes mentioning about the 3 limit and saying that the spirit of the Forum seems to be that hints are given rather than direct answers. That would make two 'instruction' threads on the first page, which leaves 18 slots for crosswords and quizzes, I suppose that's OK.

I know that Users in the Listener thread do not like answers under any circumstances but does this apply to other threads as well, or are answers freely given?

I have to be honest, I rarely venture into the Quiz threads unless someone alerts me to a problem which isn't often. Most of the Quiz, and indeed Crossword, threads tootle along quite nicely without my intervention so I don't know what is happening in those threads.

But don't think that means you can all misbehave, you'll get reported to Headteacher very quickly if you overstep the mark😅

@Loge. the posting guidelines are also shown under 'forum rules" in fhe pale blue section under 'Crossword Help Forum' at the top of the page. But this could be better shown in bold and in larger font

Unfortunately, Jazz, it is outside my sphere of expertise to alter the Forum Rules and Posting Guidelines. Knowing my ability with anything technical, I think Ash thought it better keep that under his control or else he might end up with me cobbling up the whole site.

Loge suggested a prominent post which I've already answered but he gave me an idea, and I've since been thinking that the post could include both Forum Rules and Posting Guidelines which I could alter as the need arises without having to go through Ashley. We could forget those "in the background" which nobody appears to read anyway. Thanks Loge, sometimes the simplest ideas are the best..
