Of course, I think seeing 56 first made me think there was going to be something similar for the others - had me wondering if 44 was a Blur fan or if 46's mother was German 😂

Can anyone explain to me what the instructions mean? I cannot work it out.

I have most of the grid filled and I have worked out the instructions from the extra letters in the clues.

I thought that would get me to the point where I would understand what the instructions were trying to tell me. But apparently not...

Hi Hecuba!

It took me until yesterday to figure it out, too. You need to take a letter from each of the shaded entries, then make an anagram of the remaining letters to find a name in each. What links the names is an anagram of all the letters you have taken out. The instructions give no hint as to what the theme is. You just need to get lucky with one of the names. For me, it was 'in debt'.
