Thank you Malone and Chrise. Turns out I had a mistake elsewhere on the grid which I remedied. Merry Christmas, thanks again

I am a bit confused by this thread. The Times cryptic jumbo published on 27 December 2021 that I have been doing is number 1533. By my reckoning, number 4987 is not due to be published until nearly 2080! Where do I find number 4987?

I would appreciate the solution to and an explanation of 54Ac: Notable point for Labour - Brown capturing Tyneside initially. (6) S-A-L-

Stable, notable point for Labour/labour (it is the Christmas puzzle!). Sable, brown, with T, Tyneside initially.

Tim1471, this thread has been incorrectly labelled. The puzzle being discussed appeared in the Sunday Times.

I'm a little suprised to see direct answers to clues being posted here - no gentle hints or nudges - for a prize puzzle such as this.

Thanks Malone, I had considered that as a solution but felt it to be wilfully abstruse, especially as Chambers doesn't include notable among the meanings for stable. Anyway, HNY to you Malone.

Gerba, the definition for this clue is 'notable point for Labour', not 'Labour' on its own. Mary gave birth in a stable.
