Even after copying this puzzle on my printer, I find it hard to read the clues, especially to discern the clue numbers in the boxes. And the type seems grey. Is it my eyesight or are the crosswords getting smaller, the same way that police constables look younger as we age ?

Gerba, I too found it harder to read all the clue numbers in the grid. I managed this puzzle, but in the past I have done an enlarged photocopy of the grid, I think I set that at around 140%.

Frankly, I'm thinking of giving up my sub to the Spectator, I like the puzzle but there are few contributors nowadays with the writing panache of previous staff like Frank Johnson and Auberon Waugh; the current mob are all excitable casuists, and compelling it aint.

I too am wondering whether to continue subscribing to the mag, Gerba, even though I enjoy the puzzle. As regards the practicalities, I used an enlarged grid to complete the puzzle and then very carefully, right under an Anglepoise, managed to fill in the printed grid for submission without error. My eyesight isn't what it was even 12 months ago and the last thing one needs is a splodge of Tipp-Ex messing up the page.
