A good, enjoyable puzzle, I thought.

Was 22 a bit of a stretch? It seemed to require a stress on the final letter of the entry which I think of as silent.

I don't think so; the definition of 22 is the superflous word in 8.

Ignore my comment about 22. At the time, I didn’t clock that the original clue was a double definition and so construed the answer as ending in “er” which didn’t quite give the necessary homophone, I have since seen the error of my ways and have spent a statutory hour on the naughty step.🙄

All done, very enjoyable. Only one query - I can't see the wordplay in 12. Thanks

Word for cut (in sense of a groove, more commonly a waterway) and word for unwanted growth (medical), both missing a C.
